The company was originally set up to produces nonlinear organic crystals (NOCs) that are used to emit and detect terahertz frequencies. Recently, it expanded to the field of terahertz imaging cameras introducing the RIGI, uncooled microbolometer terahertz camera. Eager to encourage further developments and industrial research in this field, the company launched the first prize celebrating the creative solutions for scientific equipment.

The developments in the field of terahertz technologies holds big potential for many industries such as security, medical imaging, pharmaceuticals, communication, and even logistics. Swiss Terahertz LLC, one of the member-companies at PARK INNOVAARE, aims to replace expensive large-scale machines with engineered, affordable, smartly-designed small ones thus overcoming many challenges the industry faces. To encourage further research and implementation of the terahertz technologies, the company launched an award offering one of its recent developments, RIGI terahertz camera (at the value of EUR 10’000).

The prize was coordinated by the 44th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves Conference in Paris, IRMMW 2019. The selection of the winner was made by a jury based on the submitted works. The jury was composed of 6 members of the Technical Program Committee. Swiss Terahertz did not interfere in the selection process. The winner of the prize was announced at the closing ceremony in Paris on September 6, 2019.
