Dr. Fabia Gozzo: an exceptional, creative, inventive, and innovative woman and entrepreneur

In a couple of weeks, London will welcome some of the world’s most innovative women from all sectors and backgrounds. The 21st Global Women Inventors, Innovators & Entrepreneurs exhibition and award will be taking place there June 27-28, 2019. Dr. Fabia Gozzo, CEO and founder of Excelsus Structural Solutions at PARK INNOVAARE, will join the conference as one of the nominees in the category “Exceptional, Creative, Inventive, or Innovative Women in Micro-enterprise or New Start-up Business with no more than 10 employees”.

The Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GWIIN) is an independent not-for-profit organization striving to assist and advance women with bright inventions and innovations so that they can achieve success in the global marketplace. Every year, GWIIN invites peers to nominate women entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, designers, and innovators for the award in 13 categories covering various sectors and fields. This year, Dr. Fabia Gozzo, CEO and founder of Excelsus Structural Solutions AG, one of the spin-offs at PARK INNOVAARE, is in the running for the award.

Dr. Fabia Gozzo spent over 25 years in research. She contributed to the construction and development of a spectromicroscope for Intel and played an important role in developing the synchrotron powder diffraction laboratory at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). In 2012, she left the comfort of a research environment and endeavored to start her own business – a service company offering industry easy and affordable access to state-of-the-art synchrotron-based characterization tools. Fabia’s scientific background made her an expert in the field while her entrepreneurial intuition showed her that her know-how would meet the needs of the industry. In a nutshell, Excelsus removes all the obstacles (paper work, experiment set-up, data collection, etc.) that otherwise discourage industry users from accessing large research facilities, their access having so far been sporadic and driven by crisis. Thanks to the spin-off, the use of the technologies developed in a research lab has now been fully integrated into customers’ R&D process. Fabia and her team are thus closing the gap between science and industry. Not only do they provide reliable results at a competitive price, but because they are also closely acquainted with the equipment, they ensure the large research facilities are used efficiently without additional staff expenses.

Fabia’s professional success and her hard work are not the only reasons why she has been nominated for this award. Despite many challenges in her professional life, Fabia has always managed to be there for her family. As it was put in her nomination, “She is an example of the successful harmonization of family and work.”
