After years of successful collaboration with the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Cosylab, a control systems provider with international operations and headquartered in Ljubljana, Slovenia, sets up its new branch in Switzerland at PARK INNOVAARE.
On December 7, 2017, Cosylab officially became a resident at PARK INNOVAARE by placing its company name plate on the wall of the deliveryLAB, its new home. Registered as Cosylab Switzerland GmbH, the company provides systems integration and customized product solutions for large scientific research projects, covering the full range of control systems and instrumentation. Among other things, Cosylab Switzerland was involved in the development of the large-scale distributed control systems for the X-ray Free Electron Laser SwissFEL and the Swiss Light Source (SLS), both operated at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).
World-class specialists and top-notch control systems
On the market now for almost 20 years, Cosylab has earned its reputation as an experienced and reliable service provider. It offers control system integration, development of software, hardware and engineering solutions: starting with the specifications, then designing a comprehensive system architecture and finally building and installing a reliable and failsafe system. The implementation of such a system is very important for large research facilities, as it can improve their performance while significantly reducing commissioning time, man-power and costs.
On the way to a new market
Up to now, the company has been focusing on the purely scientific market. Its specialists have worked on several large physics projects all over the world: in France (ITER), Japan (KEK), USA (LCLS-II, FACET), Sweden (European Spallation Source) and others. It has established great partnerships in the scientific community, working elbow-to-elbow with world’s best physicists and laboratories. The company strives to stay on the respective project site to assure the best service for its clients. “For us, a very important factor was the location and the proximity to the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), since it is currently one of our most relevant customers within Switzerland. What we also really appreciate is that PARK INNOVARE offers us a ‘plug-and-play’ solution, which means we do not have to deal with any of the administration or office management, etc. For a small team like ours, this is very important as we can then all focus on production (revenue-generating) work,” says Tom Slejko, Group Leader.
Today, Cosylab aims to expand its activities and address the new market of high-performance industrial control systems and control systems for medical accelerators. Switzerland is one of the most promising markets for the company, hence its commitment to the location.
